A new adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play, premiered from 15 to 19 July 2026 at the Roman Theatre as part of the 72nd Mérida International Classical Theatre Festival.
Starring Pepe Viyuela and directed by Hernán Gené, the production revisits one of Shakespeare’s less frequently performed works, offering a contemporary perspective on friendship, the power of money, ambition and ingratitude.
Through a staging that combines comedy, satire and tragedy, the production reflects on the fragility of human relationships and the commodification of affection, turning Shakespeare’s text into a critical mirror of consumerism, materialism and the contradictions of contemporary society.
A co-production of the Mérida International Classical Theatre Festival and Bombonera, adapted by Joaquín Hinojosa, with dramaturgy and direction by Hernán Gené.
